Stan Mack II Receives the first Champion of Civility Award Oshkosh Civility Project - c/o Oshkosh Area Community Foundation
Stan Mack II, Superintendent of Oshkosh Public Schools, has been chosen for the first Champion of Civility Award, presented by Walter Scott, Jr., representing the Oshkosh Civility Project.
Mr. Mack has continually demonstrated adherence to the principles, practices, and promise of CIVILITY.
His actions have drawn public support for the schools and improved the environment for teaching and learning excellence. Generous in his time to support many important volunteer and community based efforts, and unfailing in his commitment to civic growth and advancement, Superintendent Mack is representative of the high standards of Civility, and the Oshkosh Civility Project.

Oshkosh Mayor Burk Tower Receives the SecondChampion of Civility Award Oshkosh Civility Project - c/o Oshkosh Area Community Foundation
Oshkosh Mayor Burk Tower received the “Champion of Civility Award” by the Oshkosh Civility Project at his last council meeting on April 14, 2015.Presenting the award on behalf of the Oshkosh Civility Project was Walter Scott, Jr., Sue Panek, and several others from the organization.
“Burk Tower has been a model of effective service and responsible community-oriented leadership,” said Walter Scott. “His support for the work of the Oshkosh Civility Project has been evident since we first started in 2010.”
As mayor, Tower provided visible and active support for a number of community initiatives.During his tenure, the City of Oshkosh addressed a number of important priorities and challenges.
“Mayor Tower has been a great role model for all of us,” said Sue Panek from the Oshkosh Area United Way.“His open and inclusive commitment to effective city government has helped our community grow and develop.”
Karen Heikel Receives the ThirdChampion of Civility Award Oshkosh Civility Project - c/o Oshkosh Area Community Foundation
Karen Heikel received the “Champion of Civility Award” by the Oshkosh Civility Project at a special meeting held June 3, 2015. Presenting the award on behalf of the Oshkosh Civility Project was Walter Scott, Jr. and several others from the organization.
“From the moment she arrived in Oshkosh, Karen Heikel has been associated with the work of the Oshkosh Civility Project,” said Walter Scott. “Thanks to her efforts, we linked effectively with educators, human service organizations and others throughout the greater Oshkosh area.”
“Karen Heikel has been a tireless worker through our project,” said Sue Panek from the Oshkosh Area United Way. “She has been very effective in making presentations to large audiences from the public schools and other community-based organizations.” Panek added that Heikel’s work in the community – both at UW Oshkosh and through the Oshkosh Civility Project – has been a “model of civility in everyday life.”
