A T I O N - from Mayor Paul Esslinger, City of Oshkosh

WHEREAS, the Oshkosh Area Community
Foundation and the Oshkosh Chamber of Commerce are sponsoring a special
community breakfast on the subject of civility at the Oshkosh Convention
Center; and
WHEREAS, the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh is hosting a Workshop for the University of Wisconsin System entitled, "Civility in Everyday Life" on the UW Oshkosh campus; and
WHEREAS, the Oshkosh Public Library is hosting a program entitled, "Be a Good Sport: Civility On and Off the Field", featuring sports writers, coaches and directors from area media, school district, and recreational league athletic programs, with the meet-the author and panel discussion being open to the public; and
WHEREAS, Dr. P. M. Forni, a nationally recognized author and expert on civility, is appearing at all three functions;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, PAUL J. ESSLINGER, Mayor of the City of Oshkosh, do hereby proclaim Thursday, February 24, 2011, as:
"A DAY OF CIVIL DISCUSSION IN THE CITY OF OSHKOSH"
and urge the people of Oshkosh to reflect on the importance of such fundamental values as treating one another with the respect, understanding and compassion that befits a proud community with a rich history and heritage of an active, engaged, informed and involved citizenry.
