The Oshkosh Civility Project
Welcome to the home page for the Oshkosh Civility Project. We cordially invite you to join with us in support of our effort to help make people aware of "civility" as a concept. We believe that when people are aware of the principles and the practices of civility as a guide to daily life, they can strengthen and enhance their interconnections with others.
Positively.Oshkosh!

Your Friends in Oshkosh, Wisconsin,
cordially invite you to learn more about civility
and the work of the Oshkosh Civility Project
We Are Indebted to Many
The Oshkosh Civility Project grew out of a visit to the community of Tahoe Truckee, California. There the "Speak Your Peace" campaign being advanced by the Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation was a source of creative inspiration. We quickly learned that the folks in California were using and developing the "Speak Your Peace" model that was originally developed by the Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation.
We also subsequently learned that this work was based on the work of Professor P.M. Forni from Johns Hopkins University. In particular, Dr. Forni's two books on the subject of civility. Attention is directed to: Choosing Civility and the Civility Solution.

Oshkosh Embraces the Framework of Civility
With key lead work being done by the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh and the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation, the Oshkosh Civility Project was created as a community-based effort advancing the approach to civility reflected in the work of the foregoing: Forni - Duluth Superior - Truckee Tahoe.
We Welcome a Partnership with You!
The Oshkosh Civility Project will work with individuals, organizations and entire communities to help develop approaches to civility that are appropriate for individuals, organizations and communities. We envision continuing to work on the local and regional basis. We believe that a number of civility-related efforts in Wisconsin and adjacent areas (noting the origin of "Speak Your Peace" in Duluth Superior Area and other efforts in communities such as Dubuque, Iowa.
There are some in the broader civility effort that believe Wisconsin is an ideal state for the formation of a comprehensive approach to civility as an area of focus for our entire state. |
